Two things are a constant in our world – the weather is always a challenge & people ask the same few questions about our drones. So we wanted to address those frequently asked questions. Oh & give our 2017 Drone Reel a watch, there’s some pretty stuff in there!
Q. – How high can your drone fly?
A. – Thousands of feet, but we’re legally restricted to 400 feet as per the conditions in our Special Flight Operations Certificated (SFOC) issued by Transport Canada.
Q. – How far away can you fly your drone?
A. – The range of the technology maxes out around 5km, but we need to keep the drone within eyesight so we typically keep the flights within 1-2km which is still really far.
Q. – How much does your drone cost?
A. – We’ve got a few in our fleet that range from $2000 to $20,000.
Q. – Is the drone difficult to fly?
A. – Extremely difficult, so hire us! Just kidding, while it takes a fair bit of practice – the GPS in the drone makes them much easier to fly by beginners then even a few years ago.
Q. – Do you need/have a license to fly?
A. – You need a license to fly drones commercially which is called an SFOC issued by Transport Canada. You do not need an SFOC to fly a drone recreationally but those spaces in Halifax are quite limited which we will discuss in another blog.
